Salah Faraj was born in 1945 in the Qazazakan neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah. He studied literature until high school. He is commonly known among people as Salah Ballabarz due to his tall stature.
He got married in 1974 and has two sons and two daughters. He has served Kurdish art for more than half a century, such as theater, drama and various films.
