Mehemed Malmîsanij
Malmisanij was born in a village of Piran in 1952. He finished high school in Kurdistan where he taught for eight years after an university education in Ankara.
He moved to Sweden in 1982. He read Iranian Studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris, studied Iranian Languages at Uppsala University and Folk Education at Linkoping University; he has an MA from Goteborg University.
Malmisanij mostly writes in Kirmanji (Zaza) dialect and in Turkish.After Ehmedê Xasî and 'Usman Efendîyê Babijî who wrote the first works in Kirmanji in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, no one wrote in the language until 1970. Malmisanij was the first to revive written Kirmanji in the country in the 70's. He published Tirêj with some friends; half of the periodical was in Kirmanji, half in Kurmanji. He was the first to prepare and publish a dictionary of Kirmanji in 1987. Malmisanij transcribed Ehmede Xasi's and Usman Efendiye Babij's mewlids from Arabic to Latin script, introducing the poets to new generations.
He has also translated stories from Persian and Turkish into Kirmanji. The author has had poetry and prose published in various periodicals and was an editor of the following publications: Tirej (Izmir), Hevi (Paris), Armanc (Stockholm), Carcira (Stockholm), Wan (Stockholm), Cira (Stockholm).
Malmisanij, the editor-in chief of Vate, a literary and linguistic periodical in the Zaza dialect published in Stockholm and in Istanbul, was the president of the Kurdish Writers' Association in Sweden.
Some of Malmisanij's books have been translated into English, Arabic and Kurdish. Some of his poetry have also been translated to English, French and Swedish.
