His full name is Tahir Tofiq Awrahman Hamad Shekhani. His family name is Shekhani.
He was born in 1922 in Koya city in the neighborhood of (Bafri Qandi) in the arms of a poor family and studied until the third grade of secondary school Sing a song.
Mr. Tayer was influenced by the talented singers of Koya such as Sewa and Mullah Asad and benefited greatly from Ahmadi Hamamala. However, when his singing skills became stronger, by mid of forties of the past century he tried to have his own voice and style and his own particular approach.
Since 1945, Tayer Tofiq has been a member of the stage of Kurdish Newroz celebrations and has sung many national songs with his beautiful voice, and always selected the best poems of Kurdish poets.
Anyone who is familiar with the art of Kurdish music and song and hears the name of Tayer Tofiq, immediately recalls the music of his original songs on night and day composed by Haji Qadir Koyi and Labakhan Aw Nalen Dey of Wafaee, the pure flirtation of Mustafa Bagi Kurdi, Safi Hirani and Osman Auni, Gulli Sarbasti of Bakhtiar Zewar, Fayeq Bekas's jewel twenty-seven-year, Ibrahim Ahmad's sweet spring and some delicate poems by Hazhar, Hemn, Goran, Madhosh, Dildar, Dilzar, Majid Asngar, Be Khaw and Sharaza.
Tayer Tofiq was an artistic singer with a national attitude. He did not sing for the Government officials in any conferences and meetings. He sang all his songs for the Kurds and to appease the hearts of artists During his lifetime, he published six booklets and books of poetry, the best of which is Guli Sarbesti, with an introduction by Karim Sharaza, published in 1983. On #20-10-1987#, Tayer Tofiqi, the great Kurdish singer, passed away at the age of 65 and was buried in Koya.[1]
