Giwi Mukiriyani
Giwi Mukiriyani
His full name is Abdulrahman Latif Ismail Abdullah Latif. He was born in 1903 in Mahabad.
In 1913, he went to Syria with his brother Hussein Huzni, where he lived until 1925. He attended primary school in Aleppo. In 1924-1925, he went to Beirut and learned the basics of French at a university. In 1915 his brother bought a print machine in Germany and placed it in the Aleppo market.
In 1925, he came to Iraq with Hussein Huzni and settled in Baghdad for a while. In the same year, at the request of Sayyid Taha Shamzini, the then director of Rawandz township, he moved to Rwandz from Aleppo and established a printing house there. In 1926-1932 he was assistant to Huzni and editor of Zari Kurmanji magazine in Ruandz. In 1935-1936 he worked in Runaki magazine, published by Huzni and Sheikh Mustafa in Ruandz and Erbil. In 1935, he came to Erbil and worked as a photographer and printer. In the same year, he bought a larger Kurdish printing press in Mosul from Fazil Isa Mahfouz and established it in Erbil to print Kurdish magazines and books.
On #20-09-1947#, when his brother Hussein Huzni Mukriani died, he became the owner of the old Zari Kurmanji printing press. In 1948, during the Iraqi national uprising and after achieving some democratic freedoms in the country, he renamed the printing house Zari Kurmanji to Kurdistan Printing House.
In 1963, the name of the printing house was changed to Erbil Printing House. In 1970, after the publication of the historic statement of March 11th, the printing house was renamed Kurdistan Printing House.
He died in Mosul hospital on #27-07-1977# and was buried in Imam Mohammed cemetery in Erbil next to his brother Hussein Huzni Mukriani.[2]
