Kurdish politician #Abdul Latif Rashid# has been elected by the Iraqi parliament as the country’s new president.
The Iraqi parliament on Wednesday 13.10.2022 elected Kurdish politician Abdul Latif Rashid as the country’s new president.
The election, which came after months of deadlock, paved the way for the formation of a new government.
The new president was elected by 277 parliamentarians. In the first round of the voting, in which 39 candidates competed for the presidency, Abdul Latif Rashid, supported by the KDP, received 157 votes, while Berhem Salih, the candidate of the #PUK#, received 99 votes.
Latif Rashid won the majority with 162 votes in the second round.[1]
