Latif Omar Mustafa, an organization cadre and member of the leadership, also known as Latif Sheikh Omar, was born in Sulaymaniyah. He graduated from the College of Management and Economics of Sulaymaniyah University in the 1960s and joined the Kurdistan Students Union and then became a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. In the year 1972, he joined the Kurdistan Ranjdaran Association and was involved in cultural circles. In 1976, he was a founding member of the Kurdistan Students Association with Shuan Ali Saeed Rauf Akrayi, Kosrat Rasul Ali, and Mohammed Khurshid. On 05-05-1977, he was arrested by the Sulaymaniyah Security Agency along with a group of members of the organization and sentenced to five years in prison. He was released under a general amnesty in 1979 and continued to work in the organization. After the 1991 uprising, he became a member of the intellectual committee of the first headquarters of the Sulaymaniyah organization in Qalachualan later he became the head of the second committee. In the year 1992, he was elected as the secretary of the Kurdistan Students Association and at the same time, he became the administrator of the Bureau of Democratic Organizations. Between 1997 and 2004 he went to USA and lived there he became aware of elections and an expert in the field. In 2004 He returned to Kurdistan and was appointed Assistant Secretary General of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and for Electoral Affairs and later became a member of the Electoral Commission. In 2010, he became the director of the special office of the prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Sulaymaniyah and was elected as a reserve member of the leadership committee of the second congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).[1]
