In the late 1930s, he worked for the Zari Kurmanji printing house of Hussein Huzni Mukriani, then in Rwanduz.
In late 1941, he joined the Iraqi Communist Party and published several Kurdish publications with several friends.
In 1943, he established the first library in Rwanduz called Sarkawtn. He coordinated with several Arabic publishing houses and delivered magazines and newspapers to Rwanduz.
Ali Maktaba played a significant role in the cultural and political movement of Rwanduz , and his home, library and workplace became a place for intellectuals to gather and hold political meetings.
