Sheikh Salam
Sheikh Salam
Salam was the son of Sheikh Ahmad of Azaban. He was born in the year 1892 in the village of Azaban in the Warmawa area of the #Halabja# province. From an early age of his life, he had been very interested in education. He started his studies at the age of four. He studied the Qur'an and the Persian language. His father passed away when he was still a child at the age of six. He was aware of the events of the first revolution of (#Sheikh Mahmoud Hafid#) in the year 1919 AD. For his occupation, he served in many places, such as Warmawa, Halabja, #Sulaymaniyah# , even Basra, Baghdad, Hillah and some other places. In the year1928, he founded the Zoroastrian Association with several young people.
In 1930, after the tragedy of the Black Day of September 6, he went to the village of Piran with Sheikh Mahmoud. He also participated in the events of 1931 with the command of Sheikh Mahmoud. He retired in 1945-1955.
In the introduction to his book, published in 1958 in the city of #Baghdad#, Dr Marf Khaznadar writes: “Salam is more of a national poet because when he was young, the Kurdish nation was going through a special period”.
Regarding his psychological poems, he says: “They contain a clear imagination and express the right consciousness It is like his words are coming straight out of his psyche.
One of Sheikh Salam's masterpieces is Khayyam's poems, which he translated from Persian into Kurdish. In this translation, he really preserves the spirit of Khayyam's poems. This translation of his is considered one of the best translations.[1]
