Salih Kargachi, whose full name is Hama Salih Abdullah Raheem was a patriotic singer with a beautiful voice. He was born in 1934 in the Sargaloo village of Mawat. His artistic career began in the 1940s, especially in 1946-1947, before Grundig recorders existed.
If we look closely at the Kurdish celebrations of the 1940s and 1950s in Sulaymaniyah, especially Newroz, the artists who sang live and gathered an audience there were: (Mohammed Salih Dilan, Qadir Haji Hussein, Rashol, Salih Kargachi) who were very popular. Although he was asked to be employed by the Kurdish station in Baghdad, he could not stay there because of his family ties and circumstances, because he had an elderly mother whom he could not leave alone. He married Amina Mohammed Mustafa in 1948. He became a policeman in 1940-1950. In this year, his first son was born, named Omar Khayyam. The artist had seven sons and three daughters, but three sons and a daughter died.
In 1958-1960, he studied at the School with Najmadin Mullah. He strengthened his literacy and tried to enlighten himself. Therefore, he participated in most of the cultural and literary meetings of that time. He always expressed his opinion on the issues that were presented at that time and became friends with Azhi Gorani, a poet and martyr Dilshad Mariwani. In 1960, he was arrested by the Iraqi regime and sent directly to Nugra Salman prison in southern Iraq. He was imprisoned for a year and later released. He immediately rejoined the ranks of the Peshmerga and was appointed in charge of food in Sitak district of Sharbazher. From the day he became a Peshmerga, he refused to be paid his Peshmerga salary. While he was in charge of customs, he was not sent home for a month and had to sell his watch for money. From 1970 to 1973, he was in charge of the media department of the laborers union. In 1980, he retired at the decision of the medical committee.
In 1982-1983, he traveled abroad for treatment in Italy, Bulgaria, Rome, and France.
He died on 28-09-1984 and was buried in Saywan Hill in #Sulaymaniyah# .
During his career, he has recorded 21 songs for the Kurdish station in Baghdad and one song for Kirkuk television.[1]
