Yusuf is the son of Jamal Kakeyi. He was a Kurdish poet. Yasu is an abbreviation for Joseph and his nickname was Sauk. He was born in 1831 in the village of Qalkhanlu Gowra in Tuz Khurmatu region. He studied with a mullah and spent his life as a farmer and shepherd. He wrote humorous poems and insulted the sheiks, mullahs and nobles of the time. He fought with the great Kurdish poet Sheikh Reza Talabani. During the Ottoman period, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death for his satirical poems. He passed away in 1909.[1]
