Zaki's name is Mohammed son of Ahmad son of Wasman of Hanari. Because of his intelligence, the principal of his school, Abdulrahman Sharaf, named him Hama Zaki.
He was born in 1909 in Koya. At the age of seven, his father sent him to study in the hujra of Mullah Habibi Ahmadi Shamame. He studied for several years and learned Persian and Arabic.
In the autumn of 1921, he entered the primary school in Koya and was placed in the second grade of primary school. That year, English was taught alongside Kurdish and Persian. He studied English from 1921-1922, and when he grew up, he learned the language well with an English teacher.
In 1925, he passed the bachelor's examination of the sixth grade of primary school with several other students. In the autumn of 1926, he went to Baghdad and entered the Dar al-Muallim (Teachers' Institute), the excellent department. On 10-11-1928 he was appointed as a primary school teacher in Koya. In 1938, he was appointed principal of the second primary school in Koya.
In October 1941, he was appointed district director. After several years, he was removed from his post and remained unemployed for several years. In 1951, he returned to teaching in Erbil. Two years later he returned to Koya and in 1954 he was appointed director of the Qadiriyah Primary School in Koya and in 1957 he was appointed director of the public library of Koya. In the autumn of 1958, he was transferred to the primary school of Taq Taq district. After a while, he returned to Koya and was appointed as the principal of Qandil Evening Primary School.
In 1963, Zaki was arrested and tortured during the fascist Ba'ath regime. He later lived a difficult life until on 09-07-1967, he died of a heart attack.[1]
