Ralph S. Solecki
Recorded by American archeologist Ralph S. Solecki in 1953 during excavation in the mountains of Kurdistan, this collection of Kurdish folk songs and dances features the two barreled reed flute, a drum, and various local singers. The authenticity and simple honesty in these songs shines through on this recording. Solecki notes that much like the ballads of our Appalachian mountaineers…the songs deal with universal things, such as love troubles and war. Liner notes include translations of song lyrics as well as a brief explanation of Kurdish culture and history[1].
