EINLEITUNG
1.Europa, Deutschland und der Orient im Überblick.
Über Jahrhunderte herrschte ein gespanntes Verhältnis und ein mit vielen Vorurteilen behafteter Umgang des Abendlandes mit dem Morgenland, sosehr der Orient1 für Europa auch immer ein großes Faszinosum, wahrlich immer 1 Der Ausdruck Orient als der Gegensatz zum Okzident, dem Abendland, ist als Begriff bereits in der griechi-schen bzw. lateinischen Sprache nachweisbar und bedeutet Morgenland. Er stellt zunächst ein Konstrukt der „mythischen Geograhie“, ein weltanschauliches Stereotyp dar. Bereits die römische Verwaltungssprache aber fasste diesen Begriff klarer. Unter dem römischen Kaiser Diokletian (239 – 312) verwaltete der Statthalter (prae-fectus praetorio per orientem) die Diözese ‚Orient‘ mit den Regionen Palästina, Phoenica, Arabia, Ägypten,Kleinasien sowie Thrakien mit einem kleinen europäischen Anteil. Bei der Teilung des Imperiums in West- bzw.Oströmisches Reich im Jahre 395 verlief an dieser Grenze fortan die Trennung der Bevölkerung in einen latei-nisch sprechenden Teil (Westrom) und einen griechisch oder andere Sprachen sprechenden Teil (Ostrom). Seit Ausgang des Mittelalters verbindet die neuzeitliche, allerdings stereotyp populäre Meinung den Begriff Orient häufig mit ambivalenten Begriffspaaren wie: ‚Despotie und Dekadenz, luxurierend, grausam und sinnlich, natur-verhaftet und geschichtslos‘, zugleich mit so uralten Metaphern wie der ‚uralten Weisheit‘ oder dem ‚Licht aus dem Osten‘. Vgl. in sinngemäßer Form: Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart (RGG). Handwörterbuch für Theologie und Religionswissenschaft, 4.völlig neu bearb. Aufl., Tübingen 2003, Bd.6 (N-Q), Sp.651f. „Nach-und antikoloniale Diskurse, die derartige Konstrukte analysieren (cultural remapping), sind durch Edward W.Said und Martin Bernal auch in den Altertumswissenschaften rezipiert worden. Die Genese des ‚Westens‘ ver-dankt sich einem steten, bis an das Ende der Antike wirksamen, kulturellen Druck aus dem ‚Osten‘ von ‚langer Dauer‘...Der Prozeß der Kultur ist als solcher, auch im Mittelmeerraum, Rezeption Synthese, Akkumulation von Energie und Information, friedliche oder gewaltsame Aneignung heterogener Bestandteile“. Ausge-hend von diesem hier sehr theorethisch beschriebenen, aber bereits in der Antike wirksamen, über das Mittelalter und die Zeit der Kreuzzüge bis in die Neuzeit nachweisbaren Beziehungsgeflechten, vollzogen sich auch seit Beginn der Neuzeit die wechselseitigen Kontakte, Beziehungen, Konflikte und der kulturelle Austausch zwischen Orient und Okzident.[1]
