Ahmad Tofiq Mahmood
Biography

He was a veteran of Peshmerga, a prominent figure of the Kurdish revolution, and was born in the year 1926 in the city of #Sulaymaniyah#. He completed his primary and secondary education in the city of Sulaymaniyah and In the year 1939, he joined political life through the ranks of the students and the youth. He graduated from nursing high school in the year0 1942 and received a certificate in first aid and wound care. He was employed as an employee but was fired 15 days of working later for as a punishment for participating in the demonstrations of that time. He initially joined the ranks of the Iraqi Communist Party. However, he was a national figure and a nationalistic personality thus he could not continue within the party. He participated in the September Revolution as a wound care person in the areas of Karadagh and Sharbazher regions. In between the years 1970-1974, he was the Deputy Director of the Sulaymaniyah Farmers Office. After the collapse, he returned to Sulaymaniyah and joined the Kurdistan Socialist Movement in 1976 through Ali Askari and Khalid Saeed. In June 1979, he joined the Peshmerga forces and settled in Nawzang. He participated in the conferences of the Revolutionary Union as a cadre.
In the year 1987, he served at the headquarters of the Revolutionary Movement.
He suffered a heart attack in 1988 and was taken to Iran for treatment. From there he went to Germany and later settled in Sweden.
He died on December 27, 2011 in Sweden. His body was brought back to Sulaymaniyah and buried in Saywan Hill.[1]
