Kurds and missionaries، ca. 1916. My great grandfather Dr. Wilder Ellis is the guy top row 2nd from the left. 3rd from the left is the Kurdish chief Simko، and the next one over is supposedly Dr. Shedd. Dr. Shedd and my great grandfather worked together as Presbyterian missionary physicians in Orūmīyeh in what is present day northern Iran. My great grandparents were reportedly held by Simco for several years until they were held under house arrest and eventually deported by the Turkish army. (Used to read that they were freed by the turks، but now freed، held under house arrest، and then deported is the more up-to-date version of the story...) [1]
