Dildar
Yûnis Reuf or Dildar As we know him the Kurdish poet and political activist
in 1945 He wrote the Poem Ey-Reqîb (adopted as Kurdish national anthem)
Birth and study
He was born on February 20, 1918 in the town Koy-Sanjaq one of Kurdistan's region towns around Erbil
Kurdish People called him Dildar which means the Lover, beau, someone in love
he finished his elementary & middle school in Koy-Sanjaq
then moved to #Kirkuk# , to study at the secondary school
after he finished his study in Kirkuk he decide to travel to the capital of Iraq Baghdad because of his desire of studying law in order to become a lawyer, and he graduated in 1945
Dildar loved to get and know more information
even outside the school
so he start to read books about Kurdish folklore,
and about the literature and history of Europe
while he was in the middle school.
he was reading about greek,France,Turkey history
which made some revolutionary thoughts grow in his mind,
those thoughts were very close to the Kurdish revolution Curriculum and what Kurdish rebels telling people....
he grew up with revolution thoughts Plus his love to the literature....
His Struggle for the Kurdish matter
he started to work as a lawyer which is an important way to earn money in capitalist countries
but dildar was thinking in a different way
using his profession to defend poor people and farmers
and especially defending the Kurdish issue
besides that, he became a political activist
So he joined the Hewa Party in 1938 (Hope), the first Kurdish organization legally recognized that seeks for unity and free Kurdistan
Dildar in Prison
after he joined the hewa Party,he traveled to Rojhelat east Kurdistan
to join the Kurdish revolution that was led by Qazi Muhammad against Iranian Government but after that, the Iranian soldiers captured him and they put him in prison
while he was in his prison he wrote the poem Ey Reqip which mean [Oh foes who watch us] talking to the prison guard
challenging him telling him that the Kurdish people will never stop the revolution...and they will continue fighting for Kurdistan....
Dildar died young at the age of 31
On November 12, 1948
But his words been saved in Kurdish people mind and soul
the Kurds adopted his Poem Ey-Reqîb as Kurdish national anthem in 1938
every year of 21 February when Kurds celebrate Newroz, the first thing they doing is singing the Anthem Ey Reqib
to remind the enemies that Kurdish revolution will never stop until the Kurds get their freedom till they liberate Kurdistan...
the poem in english
Oh foes who watch us, the nation whose language is Kurdish is alive
It cannot be defeated by makers of weapons of any time
Let no one say the Kurds are dead, the Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive and their flag will never fall
We are the sons of the red colour of revolution
Our history is one filled with blood
Let no one say the Kurds are dead, the Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive and our flag will never fall
We are the sons of the Medes and Kai Khosrow
Our homeland is our faith and religion
Let no one say the Kurds are dead, the Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive and our flag will never fall
The Kurdish youth has risen like noble warriors
To draw the crown of life with blood
Let no one say the Kurds are dead, the Kurds are alive
The Kurds are alive and our flag will never fall
The Kurdish youth are ever-ready
And always prepared to sacrifice their lives
To sacrifice their lives, to sacrifice their lives.[1]
