GENEVA (ANF) – The 32nd regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council has kicked off in the Geneva city of Switzerland today. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein made the opening speech of the session which will last till July 1.
Hussein pointed out that Turkey used heavy weaponry in the Kurdish town of Nusaybin where buildings have been demolished completely, and the destruction can be seen from satellite images as well.
Hussein stated that; “We have repeatedly made statements and voiced our concerns regarding the violations of the international law and right to life in the Southeast of Turkey. In addition, numerous reports are coming through confirming these allegations. We demand that a committee affiliated to our office be enabled access to the region and conduct an examination at site.”
Hussein called attention to the deal on refugees between Turkey and the European Union (EU), and called upon both sides to act in conformity with human rights.
The session of the UN Human Rights Council is being attended by representatives of many states and non-governmental organizations.
