My name is Khatu Najla and I am the daughter of Sheikh Raouf Khanaqah of Kirkuk. I was born on #01-01-1946# in #Erbil# as the first child of my parents. My father was an employee in Erbil and we lived here. We are from Kirkuk. We had three other daughters after me (Nahla, Khawla and Mehraban). We had a brother from another mother but he passed away. My mother liked me to be named Khatu Najla. My father was the kind of person who educated and enlightened himself through individual effort. My mother had studied up to third grade and was more understanding than the average person. Because my father was a sheikh, he had contact with religious families. The first school I attended was in Taqtaq. Later I was transferred to Erbil because of my father's transfer from the office. My childhood was quiet and calm. There were good books and libraries in our house, I started reading books in the fifth grade. The books belonged to my brother and he kept them at home. In the beginning, there were children's magazines (Samira and Sindbat) and Rayat Hilal I started reading with those magazines. After that, there were some magazines that talked about world literature and contained very useful and interesting things. I read them in Arabic because we were taught in Kurdish at school. Later, my father and the books in our house influenced my reading in Arabic. But I don't remember reading books. After that stage, I started reading books by Najib Mahfouz, Ihsan Qadir Qudus, Yousef Siba'i, Jibran Khalil Jibran and others. So from the beginning I read any book I could find.[1]
