This paper aims to explore the role of Iraqi Kurdistan on emerging Kurdish nationhood in Turkey, Iran and Syria. Being the largest non-state nation, the Kurds are split between Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey creating challenges not only to the territorial integrity of these states, but also stability of the Middle East. Therefore the raise of Kurdish nationalism has always been oppressed by the central governments of these states. Formation of autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan has become an inspiration for Kurdish nationalist movements in the region and Diaspora. While in Turkey Kurdish nationalist movement is seeking recognition of Kurdish identity and cultural rights, in Iran Kurds are demanding recognition of their elementary rights. In case of Syria the raise of Kurdish nationalism leads to the formation of political or cultural autonomy.
