ERBIL — An Iranian Kurdish woodturner has created the smallest wooden chess set in the world, saying that it took him several months to make it, a report said on Saturday.

Speaking to IRNA, Mokhtar Ahmadi said that has made the smallest wooden chess in the world, explaining that the chessboard scale is 12 * 12 millimeters while its diameter is less than one millimeter, its tallest piece, the king, is 6 millimeters, and its smallest piece is 2 millimeters high.
The Kurdish woodturner pointed out that he is making efforts to register his art work in Guinness World Records and keep it in Kurdestan Museum in Sanandaj province, according to the report.
Although small chess boards have previously been made in different countries in the world, Ahmedi believes that his art work is the smallest chess set in the world, noting that his chess pieces are made of wood which makes it unique
The art of woodturning has commonly been seen in Sanandaj in different phases of the modern history. Currently, more than 45,000 artists of different types of arts work in Sanandaj which is known as the center for developing such works.
The official Guinness World Record was set up by artist Ara Ghazaryan, who is based in Los Angeles, California, in 2017, which was made on an minute scale, and from a luxurious Brazilian cherry wood and 18 Kt. yellow and white gold.[1]
