Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis was a great religious figure, writer and scholar of the Kurdish people.
He was born in the spring of 1901 in Takya village of Khurmal township. His full name is Abdulkarim Mohammed Fatah. He began his studies with the Quran and religious books. At the beginninng of the First World War, he resided in Malkandy mosque of Sulaymaniyah. In 1924, he received his mullah's license in a large ceremony in Sulaymaniyah.
In 1960, he was appointed as a teacher in the Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gaylani Mosque in Baghdad. He received a scientific license from more than 50 jurists. Since then, he began teaching Shari'a, literature and the Arabic language. Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis has published several books and works such as writing the biographies, stories, and poems of several poets such as Maulana Khalid, Sheikh Osman and Sarajeddin. He also published several poems of his own under the title of Nami. He also played a big role in teaching the Tafsir of Qur’an Shari’a in the Kurdish language.
Some of his works that were published in Kurdish:
1. Yadi Mardan (یادی مەردان), two volumes.
2. Binamalay Zaniyaran (بنەماڵەی زانیاران)
3. A few books about Shari’a and Islam.
4. A collection of poems by Faqe Qadir Hamawand.
5. Tafsir of Nami, seven volumes.
6. Writings of Kak Ahmad Sheikh, four volumes.
Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis, because he was known as a great scholar in Iraq and had the religious fatwa, he held the position of president of the Iraqi Scholars Association. And in later years, 3,000 Sunni religious scholars met in Baghdad and without his participation and knowledge, Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis was elected as the head of the Supreme Trust for Teaching, Research and Sufism, but he refused because of his poor health. He was also an active member of the Iraqi Information Forum (Kurdish Board) and an accredited member of the Jordanian Information Forum.
Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis passed away at the age of 104 at 12 pm on #29-08-2005# in Baghdad, Iraq.[3]
