Nickname: Mullah Omar Dibagayi
His name was Omar Mawlood. He was born in 1922 in Dibga district of Erbil province.
At the age of six, he went to the religious school of the Great Mosque of Dibaga. He continued his studies in Sharia and Arabic grammar under Mullah Ismail Mohammed.
He then went to Erbil and continued his education at Sheikh Nouraddin School under several teachers and scholars. He received his scientific degree in 1949 from Mullah Salih Gozpanki.
He later studied Islamic sciences under Mullah Tahir Suseyi. In 1950 he went to Baghdad and continued his studies with Sheikh Amjad Zahawi and Sheikh Mohammed Qazalji.
In the same year, he was appointed as a preacher in the mosque (Nabat al-Hassan).
He has worked as a preacher in several other mosques in Baghdad, including (Al-Nu'maniyah, Al-Fadl, Omar al-Farooq, Al-Hajj Badriya al-Dulaimi). He also taught at Naila Khatoon School, Al-Baniya Mosque, Islamic Institute, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Geylani School and Baghdad University of Islamic Sciences.
He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Ministry of Endowments in Baghdad.
He had a strong relationship with Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis since 1960. He continued his research in the fields of grammar, pronunciation, rhetoric, logic, beliefs and principles of jurisprudence. He gave advice speeches on radio and television for 35 years.
He has published several articles in the newspapers (Al-Rai, Manbra al-Islam). He was a member of the Association of Islamic Scholars in Iraq for 43 years.
From 1959 to 2002, he was a member of the Fatwa Committee in Iraq.
He was a preacher in the mosques mentioned earlier for 52 years.
He died of a heart attack on 01-03-2002 while praying for the evening prayer and was buried in the cemetery of Abu Hanifa in Baghdad.[1]
