Omar Changiani was born in the city of Sulaymaniyan, South Kurdistan in the second half of the twentieth century.
He is originally from the village of Changian, which is a village in Sharbazher region. He began his primary education in the mosques of Sulaymaniyah and its surroundings. He went to the last grades of Hujra as a jurist. He then went to the Institute of Islamic Studies (Great Mosque) in Sulaymaniyah and graduated from the institute.
He participated in the Great September Revolution as a member of the Union of Religious Scholars, then headed by Mullah Osman Abdul Aziz. Before university, he studied with Mullah Abdulkarim Muderis in the Geylani Mosque in Baghdad.
He went to Medina to study for a bachelor's degree in 1980 from the College of Da'wah and Principles of Religion with excellence.
In the early 1980s, he was expelled to Erbil after several years as an imam and preacher at the Sheikh Abdul Qadir Geylani Mosque and refused to obey the orders of the authorities and pray for his leader.
He participated in the great Kurdish uprising in the early 1990s. After the uprising, he began preaching in the Iman Mosque in Sulaymaniyah and established a school named Omar son of Khattab (One of the four Caliphs after prophet Mohammed).
Due to political changes and genocidal wars, the school was closed down and his private library was burned down.
He studied several times for a master's degree in Arab countries, but each time they did not allow him to receive the degree at the last moment, the most important reasons being his Kurdish language and their racism.
He has a regular article in Khabat newspaper on Saturdays and Evro newspaper on Wednesdays in Badini, in addition to several publications in various Kurdish newspapers and magazines.
Omar Changiani has been a religious advisor to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Media Center for several years. He is a member and advisor of the Islamic Thought Forum headquartered in Erbil on Radio Zagros.[1]
