Hamma F. Mirwaisi
Return of the Medes is a labor of love by Hamma Mirwaisi, a Kurdish patriot, who seeks to educate the world on the history of his people that stretches back to the very beginnings of human civilization. It is a reminder to the Mede descendants of their former greatness and a call for them to become united. It is also Mirwaisi's own story, written as an example of the trials undergone during the past decades by the Mede people of present-day Kurdistan. Mirwaisi's personal history is recounted in the voice of an aging man, born on the border of Iraq and Iran. It tells of his Muslim religious education as a child, the internal struggle between leaders of his people, his seven years as a Kurdish freedom fighter, his experience as a refugee in Iran, and finally his life as an immigrant in the United States with a family. In his new home, he attended a university and became an engineer, a contractor, and an activist, working with the government to bring about change for his people after the wars in Iraq.
