Zelfs in Europa zijn critici van Erdogan niet veilig

Bij de Turkse ambassade in Brussel zijn gisteren rellen uitgebroken tussen aanhangers en tegenstanders van Erdogan. Hierbij zijn steekwapens gebruikt door de Erdogan-aanhangers.
Uit de laatste berichtgevingen is gebleken dat er drie NEE-stemmers, tegenstanders van Erdogan, gewond zijn geraakt door steekwonden. Hiervan verkeert nog één gewonde persoon in een kritieke toestand.
De schermutselingen ontstonden toen Erdogan-aanhangers probeerden op straat Turkse propaganda op te hangen. Diverse tegenstanders van het Erdogan-regime uitten daarop hun ongenoegen hierover, waarna zij werden aangevallen door de aanhangers van de AKP (de partij van Erdogan) en de aanhangers van de extreem rechtse MHP (Grijze wolven).
Meteen na het voorval is de Brusselse politie uitgerukt om de twee kampen uit elkaar te houden. Maar hiermee heeft men niet kunnen voorkomen dat later op de avond Turkse extreem nationalisten wederom de NEE-stemmers (tegenstanders van Erdogan), die nog steeds stonden te protesteren in de buurt van de Turkse ambassade, hebben aangevallen. Of hierbij gewonden zijn gevallen is nog onduidelijk.
Na deze gebeurtenissen, de zoveelste in Europa, blijven nog steeds enkele vragen onbeantwoord:
Waarom lopen deze Turkse extreem nationalisten met wapens rond? Is dit in Nederland ook het geval?
Het geweld wat Erdogan dagelijks toepast tegen critici in Turkije, begint zich steeds meer te verplaatsen naar de rest van de wereld. Dit is niet de eerste keer dat Turkse extreem nationalisten zorgen voor onlusten. Waarom wordt hier niet harder tegen opgetreden in de desbetreffende landen?
Binnenkort kan men in Nederland ook een stem uitbrengen inzake het referendum. Wat voor veiligheidsmaatregelen zullen er worden genomen om te voorkomen dat dit wederom uitmondt in geweld door extreem rechtse Turken richting de tegenstanders van Erdogan en dan met name richting de Koerden, die vaker doelwit zijn van deze extreem nationalisten?
Waarom veroordelen de Turkse staat en de pro-Erdogan partijen in Europa dit geweld niet? En waarom roept men haar achterban niet op om dit soort gewelddadigheden te voorkomen? Waarom spreken de Europese landen de Turkse regering en met name Erdogan hier niet op aan?
DEMNED veroordeelt dit geweld en doet er alles aan, binnen haar mogelijkheden, om dit soort escalaties te voorkomen.
Wij roepen de Nederlandse overheid op om in contact te treden met de verschillende organisaties uit Turkije , met als doel het voorkomen van geweld vanuit deze extreem nationalistische Turkse groeperingen jegens anderen en om veiligheid te bieden aan al haar burgers om binnen de Nederlandse democratische rechten hun stem op een veilige wijze te kunnen uitbrengen.
