Jalal Mirza Kareem
Jalal Mirza Kareem
Jalal Mirza Karim was born in 1935 in the city of Sulaymaniyah from a known family of the city.
He went to elementary, middle, and high school in his home city, and developed into an aware, educated, and intellectual young man who understood early on the struggles that his nation is facing.
In 1955 he joined the General Union of Students, and during that same period he started to write poems and anthems. In the beginning, his pieces were influenced by the famous Kurdish poet (Goran). After he gained more experience writing, he started to develop his own style of poetry.
In 1965 due to his political activities he was imprisoned.
Afther the Iraqi revolution of #14-07-1958#, Jalal Mirza and a few of his friends founded a magazine named Hope of Kurdistan (Kurdish: هیوای کوردستان) as part of the General Union of Students in Sulaymaniyah.
He was also part of (Rwanga, ڕوانگە) organisation in 1970 alongside other Kurdish figures such as Hussein Arif, Sherko Bekas, Kaka Mam Botani, and Jamal Sharbazheri.
Some of his publications:
1. A group of poems in Arabic published in USA in 1982.
2. Sangar, a play released in USA in 1982.
3. A booklet (Chirpay Zhaneky Nqumbu,چرپەی ژانێکی نقووم بوو) published in USA in 1991.
4. A poetry compilation known as (Rega durakany Chawman, ڕێگا دوورەکانی چاومان) published after his return to Kurdistan from USA in 1992.
His poems set the new standards for Kurdish poetry in the modern era after Goran, and especially during the periods of Rwanga it always appears in the first place in comparison to others. He is known for his clear and easy language paired with deep meaning in his poetry.
He passed away on #14-01-1993# in Erbil due to heart disease.[5]
