Shukur Mustafa

Shukur Mustafa
Shukur Mustafa Abdullah was a Kurdish writer, translator and linguist. He was born in 1926 in Erbil. He graduated from Sharia College and taught Arabic in secondary and high schools in Kurdistan and other cities in Iraq. After the historic agreement between the Kurdish revolutionary leadership and Baghdad on #11-03-1970#, he was transferred to the General Directorate of Kurdish Education and worked in the program department.
In 1975, he was appointed as the Secretary General of the Kurdish Information Forum in Baghdad. He played a good role in managing the affairs of the forum's committees and translated many valuable books from Turkish, Azerbaijani and Arabic into Kurdish.
When the Ba'ath regime merged the Kurdish Information Forum with the Iraqi Information Forum in 1979, he became an expert in the forum and continued to serve the Kurdish language, history and literature by writing and translating from other languages until his retirement in 1996.
In 1997 he came to Kurdistan and was appointed secretary of the Kurdistan Information Forum in Erbil. After the establishment of the forum in 1998, he served faithfully the Kurdish language and history until he died of heart disease in Erbil on #18-09-2003# and was buried there.
Shkur Mustafa was a strong Kurdish writer and a skilled translator. During his literary life, he presented a series of valuable books in the field of translation and editing to the Kurdish library, some of which are:
1- Dimdim Castle, Written by Arab Shamo and Translated into Sorani Kurdish and published in 1975 at Kori Zanyari Kurd.
2- Kurdish Folklore Collection, Collected by Dr. Qanati Kurdo. Translated into Sorani Kurdish script and published in 1976 at the Kurdish Information Center
3- Strana Zargutna Kurdiyatarikhi, Compiled by Urdikhani Jalil. Translated into Sorani Kurdish.
4- 4- Kuer Oğli... Written by Yaşar Kemal, Translated from Turkish into Kurdish and published in 1979.
5- The legend of Sheikh Badraddin son of Qazi Simauna, written by Nazim Hikmat, translated from Turkish into Kurdish, and published in 1981.
6- Tanaka, Written by Yeshar Kamal, Translated from Turkish into Kurdish and published in 1981 in Baghdad.
7- Careta, Written by Yashar Kamal, Translated from Turkish into Kurdish and published in 1982 in Baghdad.
8- Legend of the Fire Mountain, written by Yeshar Kamal, translated from Turkish into Kurdish and published in 1986.
9- Earth and the Sky, Written by Yashar Kamal, Translated from Turkish into Kurdish and published in 1989 in Baghdad.
In addition to these valuable books, he has translated several other books into Arabic, including:
1- Memoirs of Mamun Bik Bin Bikabik... Translated from Turkish into Arabic with Jamil Rojbayani and published in 1998.
2- History of the Baban Emirate, written by Hussein Nazim Beg, Translated into Arabic with Mohammed Mullah Karim and published in 2001.
3- Poem by Kurdish poet Abdullah Goran, written by Hussein Ali Shanoff, translated from Azerbaijani into Arabic and published in Baghdad in 1975.[2]
