His name is Rashid son of Najib Effendi son of Mahmoud Agha son of Hamza Agha son of Mohammad Agha. He was born in the year 1906 in Sulaymaniyah, South Kurdistan to a well-known patriotic family of the city. The ancestors of this writer were famous and influential during the Baban dynasty. Rashid Najib was educated as a child in mosques and then in primary and secondary schools in Sulaymaniyah. The large library of books written by the historian Hussein Nazmi played a major role in enlightening Rashid Najib and through reading and self-education he acquired a thorough knowledge of Arabic, Persian, Kurdish, and English.
Rashid Najib entered the salaried life early and rose gradually as a result of his ability and skills.
He was in charge of both the Arabic and Kurdish departments of Radio Baghdad for a while. He was appointed governor of the cities Erbil, Kirkuk, Mosul, and Basra until we was retired.
In the years 1927 and 1928, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Zhyan. In 1930, he was teaching free of charge at the scientific school together with several other patriotic personalities.
Rashid Najib has published dozens of works and articles in the fields of poetry, stories, literary criticism, social essays and translations in Zhyan, Diyari Lawan, Yadgari Lawan and Galawezh magazines, and many other books.
A great attitude of this prolific writer was to donate his private library to the Sulaymaniyah Public Library, to be open for the public to benefit from.
Rashid Najib died in 1968 in the year Baghdad, Iraq.[1]
