Anwar Qaradaghi - Musician and Composer
His full name is Mohammed Anwar Omar Mohammed. He was born in 1946 in #Halabja# township. He was placed in the Islamic student’s room in the Pasha Mosque but he didn’t continue for a long time because schools started to open and he went t to school with his brothers. In 1954 they moved to #Sulaymaniyah# and while he was in the third grade in Faisalia school at that time he was selected by William John for the secondary anthem group and later graduated from the teachers' college in Sulaymaniyah on #26-10-1964# at the same year he was appointed as a teacher and he formed the Komali Khoshi w Bakhtyari band later he formed Hiwa Band which on #23-02-1967# was renamed to Sulaymaniyah band. From 1966 to 1971 he taught music in Sulaymaniyah schools. In 1969 he was the founding member of the Sulaymaniyah Acting and Music Band. From 1971 to 1974 he was in charge of the music department of Sulaymaniyah University In 1974, he joined the September Revolution, where they formed a revolutionary(Shorsh) band. After returning from the revolution, he was expelled from university and was displaced to Samawa, He was a teacher in Samawa for two years. During this time he formed the Samawa Education Band for school activities. He was transferred to Sulaymaniyah University where he was in charge of the music department until 1981. when Sulaymaniyah University moved to Erbil In 1973, he participated in world’s youth festival in Berlin in 1973 for the first time he recorded 9 music pieces on tv, in the year 1974 he participated in the first Kurdish Art Festival in Baghdad. In the year 1998, he became an artistic advisor to the Ministry of Culture. Anwar Qaradaghi is one of the founders of PUK TV in 2010 – and Artistic Advisor to the Information Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).[1]
