This prominent Kurdish intellectual is the son of Sheikh Abdulrahman, son of Sheikh Mohammed Ali Atroshi, and his mother, Zenab, is from a well-known family in Amedi and is the sister of martyr Izzat Abdulaziz.
Sadiq Atroshi was born in 1924 in the town of Atroshi, where he studied in elementary school until 4th year before he moved to Mosul where he completed his secondary and high school education.
In 1939 he went to Baghdad where he continued his studies at the Higher Teacher Training College. In 1944 he was sent to Egypt and received a master's degree in English language and literature from King Farooq University.
In 1952, he received his doctorate in natural geography from Clark University in the United States.
After the July 14 revolution, he was appointed to an important position in the education department, but was sent back to the Higher Teacher Training Center.
Dr. Sadiq Atroshi was the president of Sarkawtn Club for a while and was an important and influential member of the club for several years. He played an influential role in establishing several professional and mass organizations.
In February 1960, he was appointed vice president of the Iraqi Teachers' Union at its second congress. He was also the chairman of the Iraq-China Friendship Committee.
In the early 1960s, Dr. Sadiq Atroshi, along with Jawaheri, Taha Baqir and other prominent figures, asked the Baghdad government to allow them to form a political party called the Republican Party and participate in strengthening the democratic foundations of Iraqi society.
In addition to his political, social, and academic activities, Dr. Sadiq Atroshi has translated several important books from English into Arabic and published several important articles in the magazine Runahi.
He joined the September Revolution in 1963 after the February coup and continued his struggle in the ranks of the Peshmerga. Unfortunately, he passed away on #24-01-1964# in Qaladze where was buried.[1]
