He was born in the year 1958 in the city of Sulaimani, south Kurdistan. He graduated from the medical college of Mosul University and received his doctorate from the same university of that city.
He is a well-known surgeon in the city of Sulaimani. He owns his own hospital in the city which is called Hatwan Hospital. Since 2002, he has been publishing a monthly medical magazine called Hatwan, named after the hospital, he owns.
He is also a lecturer in the College of Medicine of Sulaimani University.
Dr. Hiwa Omar is an active writer with works in various fields of writing, literature, translation, dictionary writing, research, and folklore.
He has published the following publications so far:
