Barham Ahmad Salih was born in the year 1960 in the city of #Sulaymaniyah# of Iraqi Kurdistan.
- At the end of 1976, he joined the ranks of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
- In 1979, he was arrested twice by the Ba'ath regime on charges of joining the Kurdistan Liberation Movement. He was detained in security prisons in Kirkuk for 43 days and tortured in various ways.
- After his release from prison, he successfully completed his high school education and won first place in Kurdistan and third place in Iraq after receiving 96.5% marks in the examination.
- He left Iraq for the UK due to security surveillance and concerns.
- In the early 1980s, he became a member of the European organizations of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and became the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK)'s relations in London.
- Despite his political struggle, he graduated from university, obtaining a bachelor's degree in civil and construction engineering in 1983 from the University of Cardiff, UK.
He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics and Computer Practice in General Engineering 1987 from the University of Liverpool, UK.
- Worked as a consulting engineer in a European company.
- In 1992, he was elected as a member of the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) at its first open congress in liberated Kurdistan.
- Representative of the first cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government after the first parliamentary elections in Kurdistan in 1992, became the head of foreign relations in the United States-Washington.
- Expanded the network of relations between the PUK and the Kurdistan Regional Government with decision-making centers in Washington and participated in the activities of the Iraqi opposition and congresses before the fall of the Ba'ath regime.
- Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) between December 2001 and mid-2004, on behalf of the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). He tried to develop the prosperity and economy of the area, While the region was under siege it was deprived of all economic and developmental chances.
- After the fall of the regime, he became Deputy Prime Minister of the Iraqi Interim Government in the second half of 2004, then Minister of Planning in the Iraqi Transitional Government in 2005, then Deputy Prime Minister of the elected Iraqi government Noori Malki and was the head of the financial committee.

- On behalf of the Iraqi government, it has launched the draft international treaty with Iraq in partnership with international organizations. The International Compact is a document of a set of joint commitments between Iraq and the United Nations to assist Baghdad in fulfilling its commitments to build a developed federal democratic Iraq that lives in peace with itself and its regional and international neighbors.
- Founded the American University of Iraq-Sulaymaniyah and currently chairs the board of trustees of that university.
- Nominated by the Kurdistan leadership for the leadership of the Kurdistan list for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections on 25-07-2007.
- Dr. Barham Salih has a wide network of Kurdish, Iraqi, regional, and international contacts and as a moderate politician is open to all political forces and movements in the country and has strong ties with the media and intellectual center.
- He is active in the field of intellectuals and in supporting civil society activities. He is the chairman of the Iraqi Multaqa, an Iraqi democratic umbrella organization that includes several democratic and national figures and personalities from all the classes of life in Iraq. Multaqa has a waidoon and Hiwa(Hope) project, which helps gifted people in Iraq and Kurdistan.
- He is married and has a son and a daughter.
He became prime minister in the sixth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
On #02-10-2018#, he became the fifth Iraqi president and the third Kurdish president after Mam Jalal and Fuad Masum.[1]
