Badi' Babajan, whose full name is Badi' Hussein Babajan, was born in 1923 in Kirkuk. He went to Sulaymaniyah to study and lived with his cousins. He completed his primary education in Sulaymaniyah, then returned to Kirkuk and completed his secondary education there.
In 1945, Babajan entered the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts. Although he wanted to be admitted to the Western Music Department, he was rejected because he did not know how to write musical notes. So he had to go to the drawing department and in 1950, he graduated from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts.
Badi Babacan was employed as an artistic employee in the Directorate of Public Space in Baghdad. In the year 1973, he was appointed as a teacher of calligraphy and decoration at the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts for four years.
To earn a living, Babajan and another calligrapher named Mahdi Juburi set up an office called Al-Khat Al-Arabiya in Rashid Street in Baghdad.
In 1939-1949, Babajan drew illustrations for Galawezh magazine and in 1948-1949, he also played a major role in the Nizar magazine.
In 1970, Badi Babajani painted the slogan of the Kurdish Writers Union and the covers of several books, some of which include:
These include: Aghani Kurdistan, a book by Marf Khaznadar in 1972, Shahidani Qalay Dam Dam (Martyrs of Dim Dim Castle), a collection of stories by Mustafa Salih Karim, Diwani Bekhud and Diwani Salam, pictures of the Kurdish alphabet textbook for children.
Badi' Babajan died on November 15, 1996 and was buried in Baghdad.[1]
