He was the son of Mohammed Faizi, the son of Mir Ahmad, son of Hassan Bag their ancestry goes back to Baba Sleman of Baban. They were given the title of Zahawi because their grandfather Hassan Bag lived in Zahaw for a while. Jamil Sidqi was born in 1863 in #Baghdad# and graduated there.
He was still very young when he was appointed a member of the Baghdad Education Council and three years later he became the director of the Baghdad Provincial Printing House and the chief editor of the newspaper Zawra.
He was then appointed a member of the Court of Appeal. At the age of 25, he suffered a serious illness that paralyzed his left leg. In 1896, he was invited to Istanbul, he took Egypt's way where he met famous writers from Egypt. Because of his political stance, he faced many struggles, and eventually he was exiled to Yemen, where he spent a year, before returning to Baghdad.
After the declaration of the legitimacy of the Ottoman Empire, he became the representative of Baghdad and settled in Istanbul. When World War I broke out, he returned to Baghdad and spent his time reading, writing, and with literature. After the establishment of the Iraqi state in 1925, he was appointed a member of the A'iyan Council and remained in this post until his retirement.
Jamil Sidqi was a very talented poet and writer. In addition to Kurdish, he had a complete command of Arabic, Persian and Turkish languages and wrote poetry in all of them. He has a lot of poetry with Sheikh Reza Talabani, people said he was equal to Ahmed Shawqi. He died in Baghdad in 1935 and was buried in the shrine of Imam al-Azam. The late left behind fifteen published works.[1]
