Rauf Hassan, whom his friends called Ufa, was born in 1945 in Goyzha neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah. He is one of those writers who has experienced a difficult life.
After graduating from the teachers' college, he studied English at the British Institute in Baghdad.
From 1985 to 1964, he worked as a laborer in Sarchnar Cement Factory and Cigarette Factory. This has made him one of the first writers in the field of labor literature and is reflected in his literature and writings.
In 1959, he founded the Parshang Literary Association with a number of friends and published the magazine Pirshing, and wrote down the magazine by hand. That is, they wrote the magazine themselves, they could not print it. Together with Omar Marf Barzanji, he published the weekly newspaper Trifa.
Later, he published the magazine Kezhi in handwriting. He has worked in several professional organizations such as the Kurdish Writers Union, Kurdish Arts and Literature Association, Kurdistan Journalists Union.
He showed his skills as a talented translator by translating many novels and directed the drama Lanawazan, which is one of the most successful dramas. Rauf Hassan was a multi-dimensional writer and a talented journalist. He once presented cultural programs on Kurdish Radio in Baghdad and Kirkuk Television. This writer was imprisoned, tortured and dismissed from his job during the Ba'ath regime because of his nationalist positions.
He passed away on 2018-12-21 and was buried on Saywan Hill in Sulaymaniyah.
