His full name is Hussein Ali Zand. He was born in 1925 in Haftaghar village of Daquq township. His mother's name is Amina Karim Zangana. Since he was young, Hussein Ali had been fond of Kurdish art, songs and maqams (a form of traditional Kurdish music).
In 1948, Hussein Ali joined the Kurdish radio station in Baghdad, where he sang several songs. One of his very first songs that he sang was called (Qumri Sar Ballm Shina)
He was very familiar with most of the Kurdish maqams, and later became acquainted with the voices of Ali Mardan, Abdullah Saeed Kirkuki and dozens of other singers of that time.
Several songs have been recorded in the artist's archive that were sung in a gathering with Ali Mardan and Saeedi Abdullah Kirkuk. They are now preserved by fans of this great artist's voice.
Hussein Ali had a close friendship with the late Salah Dauda, as well as with Rasul Gardi, Tayer Tofiq and Hassan Zirak.
In 1971, he was arrested and tortured by the Ba'ath regime after participating in a party in Khanaqin. Despite all that, he did not give up and continued to sing.
Hussein Ali died in 1991 in Baghdad and was buried in the cemetery of Sheikh Ma'roof.[1]
