Mohammed son of Mahmoud Effendi Rassam was born in the year 1921 in Jerusalem when his family was displaced. He went to school in Mosul at the age of six and the following year the family returned to Sulaymaniyah to continue his education. He completed his primary and secondary education in Sulaymaniyah and then went to military school in Baghdad. In the year 1942, he became an officer and was sent to Ruandz. There, he and his patriotic friends began to spread Kurdish nationalistic ideas and in 1943 he joined the armed movement in Barzan. After the defeat of this movement, he moved to Mahabad and served in the ranks of the army of the Republic of Mahabad. Because of his bravery and loyalty, the leader of Mahabad made him a lieutenant. He also played a major role in the political and cultural fields and was appointed president of the Kurdistan Youth Union in Saqiz and Bana. Martyr Mohammad Qudsi had a great talent in writing and reading speeches. This intellectual young man also had a good taste in storytelling. He has published stories and several works have been published in Galawezh magazine. After the Shah's forces invaded the Republic of Mahabad, Mohammad Qudsi and three of his friends (Mustafa Khoshnaw, Khayrullah Abdulkarim and Izzat Abdulaziz) fell into the hands of Iraqi authorities and were executed on June 19, 1947. The greatest treasure left behind by these four heroes is their sacred letter written on June 18, 1947, in which they advise their descendants to be loyal to the Kurds and Kurdistan.[1]
