His full name is Jalal Ahmad Wais. He was born in 1943 in Sulaymaniyah. In 1952, he was enrolled in Faisaliyah School and during the summer holidays, he continued his education with Najmadin Mullah and Noah's Ark School. He was known as “Jalal Kochar”.
Encouraged by his mother Ismat Khani Qadir Agha Mahmood Agha, he developed his art since childhood and in 1960 he went on stage for the first time and participated in the play Kaway Asngar in Qaladze as an actor. In 1962, he became a member of the Kurdish Fine Arts Association, Sulaymaniyah Branch. He was arrested for a while in 1963 and after his release, he went to Baghdad and worked as a voice actor and singer in the Kurdish section of the radio station. He later recorded 68 songs.
In 1964, after auditioning, he recorded the song “Asteray Parshangdar” written by Bakhtiar Zewar and composed by himself. After recording several other songs, most of which he composed himself, he became a well known singer.
After the opening of Kirkuk TV, Jalal Kochar performed his first song called “Parizad” and later recorded thirteen other songs for television.
After the declaration of the March 11, 1970 , he returned to Sulaymaniyah and became a member of the Kurdish Arts and Literature Association and took charge of the music, song and dance department.
He got married in 1974 and had five children.
In 1976, he became a member of the Journalists Union and worked on the library and theater archives until 1982.
He stayed in Baghdad from 1982 to 1991 until the Kurdish uprising. He returned to Kurdistan and founded the Kurdish National Art Association with several friends.
On 03-03-1993, he and his son Hunar fell under a snow avalanche near Sardasht on their way to Mahabad. Their bodies were brought back to Sulaymaniyah and buried in Saywan Hill.[1]
