Dr. Mohammed Ma'roof Fatah was a great Kurdish linguist Professor. He was also known as Hama Marf. He was born in the year 1943 in the Kani Askan neighborhood of the city of Sulaymaniyah in South Kurdistan.
He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in his home city of Sulaymaniyah.
From 1962 to 1966, he received his bachelor's degree in the English language from the College of Education, University of Baghdad, Baghdad.
From 1971 to 1973, he obtained his master's degree in the English language from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
He taught at University of Sulaymaniyah and University of Salahaddin in Erbil for 35 years.
He has published dozens of scientific articles on Kurdish and English linguistics in journals, newspapers and university scientific courses in South Kurdistan.
Because he did not bow down to the demands of the previous regime, he was promoted only to the rank of assistant professor.
After the Kurdish uprising of 1991, he received a degree in comparative linguistics (Kurdish-English) in the Netherlands. In the years 1995-1997, he received his doctorate and the title of professor.
He had a special scientific school in Kurdish and English grammar, linguistics and comparative linguistics.
He has supervised more than 200 scientific papers in the Kurdish universities in the fields of the English language, Kurdish language and comparative linguistics.
He has taught lectures in all of the universities of South Kurdistan, namely Duhok, Salahaddin, Koya, Sulaymaniyah, and has chaired or been a member of dozens of scientific paper evaluation committees.
He died on #22-06-2010# in Sulaymaniyah. [1]
