عن سلسلة (دراسات) التي تصدرها دار الشؤون الثقافية العامة، صدر للباحث احمد علي سبع الربيعي كتاب بعنوان (مكرم الطالباني ودوره السياسي والفكري في العراق) بواقع 480 صفحة من القطع المتوسط، تكشف الدراسة عن موضوعات هامة في مجالات تستحق الوقوف عندها والنظر أليها في ضوء الأفكار الحديثة وسباق المعارف والمعلومات في ميادين المعرفة التي يفتتحها الكتاب ويعبدها الدارسون، مع قراءة جوانب عديدة، أولها شخصية كردية نزيهة ووطنية ومخلصة سواء لقوميته الكردية أو لوطنه العراق، مشيراً إلى صفحة مهمة من تاريخ العراق المعاصر إضافة لما يفصح عنه من تاريخ الحزب الشيوعي العراقي، منها، مواقف مكرم ورؤاه الفكرية والسياسية من قيام ثورة 14 تموز 1958 ولاسيما من قانون الإصلاح الزراعي وانسحاب العراق من ميثاق بغداد ومن إحداث الموصل وكركوك.
جاء تقسيم الكتاب إلى مقدمة وأربعة فصول وخاتمة، تناول الفصل الأول، حياته وبدايات تكوينه الاجتماعية والسياسية والفكرية المبكرة (1923-1949)، فيما تناول الفصل الثاني، نشاط مكرم الطالباني السياسي (1949-1968)، وخصص الفصل الثالث لنشاط مكرم الطالباني السياسي والمهني (1968-1979)، أما الفصل الرابع والأخير، فقد سلط الضوء على نشاط مكرم الطالباني الفكري.
اعتمدت الدراسة على مجموعة متنوعة من الوثائق والمصادر والمراجع والمذكرات والمخطوطات التي غطت الموضوع وتمكنت من خلالها معالجة نسخة المعلومات المتعلقة بشخصية الدراسة.
