This paper provides an overview of the situation in Iraq since the end of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003, with a particular focus on the level of stability in the country since the 2011 US withdrawal. It also examines Iraqi intra-state conflicts and religious violence in the state with a particular focus on the Islamic State crisis, and assesses the legacy of the Iraqi Security Forces and US influence in Iraq. Furthermore, it discusses Iraq’s relations with its neighbors, as well as a number of issues related to domestic governance, economic resources, and human rights.[1]
