ERBIL — A Turkish artillery shelling on Tuesday caused significant damage to a civilian house in a village of Duhok province, said a local source.

The incident took place in Sooriya village near Batifa subdistrict of Zakho but caused no casualties.
Badal Murad, a resident of the village, told Kurdistan 24 that the house was empty at the time of the shelling.
However, he said, a mosque and several populated houses exist in a distance of nearly 100 meters from the targeted building.
Turkey carries out regular artillery attacks and airstrikes in the border areas of Kurdistan Region, targeting the positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The armed conflicts between the sides have left dozens of civilians killed or injured especially since last year when clashes furthers intensified.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has repeatedly called on the sides to avoid using its territories to settle their disputes as it puts its civilian populations in the border areas at risk.
It has also urged the PKK to leave the Kurdistan Region territories because its presence attracts more Turkish attacks. [1]
