Aran Manmi in his own words:
My full name is Samaan Karim Fatah, also known as Dana Manmi. I was born on 16-01-1983 in the village of Kandaway Shahidan, 40 kilometers west of Sulaymaniyah [in South Kurdistan].
I got married in the year 2001 and have two children by the names of Dastan and Mastan.
In 2004-2005 I received my bachelor's degree in media from Sulaymaniyah University.
I started working as a journalist in the year 2007 and my first article was published in Hawlati and Awene newspapers. In 2013 I was a member of the press bureau of the fourth branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). In the same year, 2015, I was the director of the news and politics department of the Kurdistan Regional Government. However, in early 2018, I resigned. As a human being and a journalist, I decided not to have anything to do with any political organization or party and to serve our nation independently, away from political dreams and ideologies.
In August 2020, I was attacked by five gunmen belonging to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Defense Agency in Sulaymaniyah . They broke my head in eleven places. Then I am photographed and threatened not to criticize again and to stop writing and journalism. After we continued our journalistic work in the same party, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), they decided to assassinate me. I decided to leave Kurdistan and I fled abroad to Europe because of the danger to my life. I am currently living in the UK.[1]
