On 09 -12- 2020, the Prosecutor, closed the preliminary examination into Iraq/UK and decided not to request the opening an investigation, having concluded, following a thorough examination, that none of the potential cases arising from the situation would be admissible before the ICC at the present time. This is without prejudice to a reconsideration based on new facts or evidence. The Office's report explains the basis of its conclusion in greater detail.
The Preliminary Examination into Iraq/UK was initially terminated on 09-02-2006 and was re-opened on 13 -05- 2014 following receipt of new information. The preliminary examination focused on alleged crimes committed by United Kingdom nationals in the context of the Iraq conflict and occupation from 2003 to 2008, including murder, torture, and other forms of ill-treatment.[1]
